Storm damage insurance claims in Utah

The Insurance Claim Process Step by Step

After a hail or wind event, the insurance claim process usually goes like this. First, get a roof inspection so you know what damage exists and what repair or replacement would cost. We document the damage with photos and a clear written scope—date of loss, type of damage, and recommended work. You then file a claim with your homeowners insurance and submit our documentation (or we can provide it in a format your insurer accepts). The carrier assigns an adjuster, who may schedule an inspection. The adjuster evaluates the damage and your policy and either approves the claim (in whole or in part) or denies it. If approved, you receive a settlement according to your policy terms and deductible; you use that to pay for the repair or replacement. We can meet with the adjuster on-site when helpful and provide any additional documentation they need.

What documentation do insurers need? Typically: date of the storm or loss, photos of the damage (roof surface, granules, flashing, etc.), a written scope of work (what needs to be repaired or replaced), and an estimate. We provide all of that. We don’t guarantee that your carrier will approve a claim—that’s between you and your insurer—but we make the process as smooth as possible and align our scope with what’s actually damaged so there are no surprises.

If your claim is denied, you can still repair or replace the roof at your own expense. We can also provide additional documentation or a second opinion if you’re appealing. For active leaks, we can do emergency roof repair first and coordinate with the claim process. For more on storm damage and inspections, see our roof inspection service.

Insurance Claims FAQ

How do I get insurance to pay for roof replacement?

Start with a documented inspection after hail, wind, or another covered event. Submit photos, date of loss, and a written scope. Your insurer sends an adjuster; if approved, replacement is paid according to your policy terms and deductible. Fullstack Roofing helps with documentation and provides a scope based on what is actually damaged.

Do I need to file an insurance claim for roof damage?

If hail or wind damaged your roof and you have homeowners insurance, filing a claim can help cover repair or replacement costs. We can inspect, document the damage with photos, and provide a clear scope and estimate. You can then submit that to your insurer and decide whether to file based on your deductible and policy.

Will you work with my insurance company?

Yes. We provide the documentation, photos, and scope details that insurers and adjusters need. We can meet with the adjuster on-site when helpful and answer questions about the work our network performs. We do not guarantee claim approval, but we make the process as smooth as possible.

What if my claim is denied?

If your claim is denied, our network can still perform the work at your direction. We can also provide additional documentation or a second opinion if you are appealing the denial.

How long does the insurance process take?

It varies by carrier. After we coordinate the damage documentation and you file, the insurer typically sends an adjuster within a few days to a few weeks. Once approved, we schedule the work through our network. For active leaks, our network can perform emergency repairs first.
