How to use this calculator
The Master Roofer here—follow these steps to get a solid estimate:
- Measure rise: vertical distance from top of wall to peak (inches).
- Measure run: horizontal distance from edge to center—half the span (inches).
- Enter rise and run above, then click Calculate.
- Use the pitch (e.g. 6/12) in our Roofing Cost and Square Footage calculators.
Rise and run are measured in inches. Common pitches: 4/12, 6/12, 8/12.
Rise: The vertical distance from the top of the wall to the peak of the roof
Run: The horizontal distance from the edge of the roof to the center (half the width)
